Stomach Cancer Symptoms

Stomach cancer usually starts with forming an ulcer or lump (tumor) within the stomach's inner lining. However, cancer cells spread to the stomach's wall without having to form a lump (tumor).

Within the early stage of cancer, stomach cancer within the stomach wall or lining. However, there is a big possibility that the cancer cells will spread towards the neighboring organs.

Different types of stomach cancer includes:

Lymphomas. Stomach cancer starts right at the lymphatic system.

Carcinomas (squamous cell). Stomach cancer starts at the squamous cell that made up the lining of the stomach.

Sarcomas (soft tissue). The cancer starts right at the muscle layer located at the stomach wall.

Carcinoid tumors. Stomach cancer starts at the neuroendocrine system.

The causes of having a stomach cancer has not been fully identified, however, there are certain factors that may cause stomach cancer to develop such as:

  • Hereditary.
  • People who have type A blood.
  • Drinking too much alcohol.
  • Excessive smoking.
  • Overweight.
  • Atrophic gastritis.
  • Acid reflux.
  • People who are in the age of 60.
  • Pernicious anemia.
  • Eating too much red meat and salt in a diet.
  • Gender, men do get twice the possibility of getting stomach cancer.

Early stage of the stomach cancer shows the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty of swallowing food.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • The feeling of being sick.
  • Continuing stomach pain.
  • Heartburn.
  • Burping.
  • Feeling bloated right after eating a small meal.

Advanced of stomach cancer shows the following symptoms:

  • Vomiting blood.
  • Weight loss.
  • Feces in dark color.
  • Lump found within the stomach area.
  • Anemia.
  • Tiredness.

The above-mentioned symptoms are most often not associated with stomach cancer. If some of these symptoms show, it is best to ask and seek aid from a general physician or an expert to perform a diagnosis.

When it comes to treatment of stomach cancer, same with other types of cancer when at an early stage has the greater possibility of getting cured. At the advanced stage, there will be slight chance to get cured totally but there are certain treatments available to cure the symptoms and prolong the patient's life.

Treatments for stomach cancer include surgery, radiotherapy, biological therapy, and chemotherapy.

It has been said prevention is much better than cure.

To prevent the risk of having stomach cancer, the following must be done:

  • Say goodbye to smoking.
  • Lower down salt intake.
  • Having a healthy diet.
  • Drink in moderation.
  • Lower down on eating red meat.
